KCA London worked with a Saudi client to develop a new outdoor destination in a local oasis. The project explores the area’s natural and agricultural heritage and offers local communities and tourists a space to learn, play, and relax outdoors. KCA London led the masterplanning, design and interpretive development of the site.

In 2021, our client ran tours around a traditional oasis farm. The success of the initiative encouraged them to create a permanent oasis visitor destination. Somewhere where locals and tourists can enjoy and explore this unique natural and agricultural environment, and discover how it has shaped local culture.

We were subcontracted to develop the masterplan and concept design for the site. Working closely with the client team, we refined their objectives and aspirations and translated these into a cohesive vision for the visitor experience and a functional space plan for the site and its facilities.

We then worked with our design partners, Form Atlarge, to produce concept designs for the different physical interventions, including walking routes, visitor facilities, playspaces, and outdoor exhibits. We were responsible for all graphic design and detailed interpretative development – defining content and interactive experiences and producing all visitor-facing graphics and text. We also developed visitor programmes to activate the site after opening and trained the guide team.

The site opened in May 2024 and quickly became one of the most visited sites in the area.

This is a wonderful and beautiful place that contributes to relaxation and immersion in nature
