Project description:
KCA London was commissioned by Qatar Museums to support the interpretive development of their new museum, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM). As a relatively small team, QOSM needed help taking the initial gallery concepts and interpretation plans to the next level of detail. They also wanted to improve the relevance and appeal of the galleries for local family audiences.
We initially worked with the client team to review the existing interpretation plans and identify any issues or areas for improvement. We then worked to redevelop and further detail the plans for six of the galleries. We also developed new exhibit briefs for each gallery and worked with the collections team to develop the object strategy and select objects. Detailed design and build work had already started, so our brief was to work as far as possible within the constraints of the existing 3D designs.
We also supported the QOSM team in a wider advisory role. Helping them to review and comment on existing and developing gallery designs – including 3D designs, graphic approaches and exhibit designs – and advising on project process and team structure.
By the end of the process, we had developed six new, highly detailed interpretation plans; a museum text style guide; and over 190 new AV, interactive and model briefs. We had also extensively reviewed and commented on a seventh gallery being developed by another consultancy.
