Project description:
The Grand Egyptian Museum is one of the largest museums in the world. KCA London was appointed to advise on museum best practice and help its newly appointed operator adapt their existing operational models to the museum’s unique context. We also helped develop a skilled team to run the museum post-opening.
We worked with the museum operator, Hassam Allam, in the run-up to and following their appointment. We supported their team across multiple aspects of operational set-up, filling the experience gap within the internal team and providing expertise on museum best practice.
Key tasks included developing operating procedures and policies for front- and back-of-house, and helping set up the staffing team. For the latter we devised a long-term staffing plan, wrote job descriptions and selection criteria for roles across the museum departments, advised on the selection of applications, and trained the newly appointed teams.
Our intensive, accredited training programme allowed multiple back- and front-of-house teams to be trained in parallel in different specialisms. The senior management team were trained in museum trends and best practice, and the key aspects of launching a new museum. Other teams received specialist training in areas such as visitor engagement, retail, marketing, fundraising, and event planning and hosting. We also trained the senior front-of-house team to train their own growing teams in core visitor engagement techniques.

These are experts who were truly able to inspire us and provide us with best practices in our field
